It's not exactly a news flash that Paris is one of the best shopping destinations in Europe. But what is news is that the city has not just a brand-new shopping district, but in fact, a brand-new way of shopping: La Vallée Outlet Shopping Village, in the suburb of Marne-la-Vallée.

Of course, outlet shopping isn't new in the United States. But in Europe, where going shopping usually means strolling around the corner with a basket, this is revolutionary. Even downtown Paris can't boast the density of great labels found at La Vallée--and it can't begin to beat the price.

Visitors will find discounts of at least 33 percent, and frequently more, at the 35 or so (and counting) shops at La Vallée. Inventory leans heavily toward clothing and accessories such as bags and shoes, but you can also find luggage, kitchen and cookware, and more.

A partial list of brands offering outlets at La Vallée includes:

  • Anne Fontaine
  • Batiste
  • BCBG MaxAzria
  • Bodum
  • Camper
  • Charles Jourdan
  • Diesel
  • Hervé Léger
  • Kenzo
  • Samsonite
  • Tommy Hilfiger

Please keep in mind that outlet shopping is so new to France that opening hours may not be set in stone yet, and that some shops are still under construction.•

Inside Scoop
If you're staying at a Disneyland Paris hotel, La Vallée is a free 10-minute shuttle ride from your doorstep.

If you're coming from Paris, take the RER A4 commuter train to the Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy station (about 45 minutes). Make your way to any Disneyland Paris hotel (you can't miss them--aside from the train station and the park itself, they're the only other buildings around), and take a shuttle.

By car, take the A4 autoroute to the Disneyland Paris exit (#14). Follow signs first toward Marne-la-Vallée – Val d'Europe; from there follow signs marked "Centre Commercial." Parking is free.
